Word Counts, Stats & Report a Typo!

My books range from 120,000 words to 200,000 (rounded down to the nearest 5K). In fact, here’s the break down:

TMG 120K
TN 150K
THL 155K
PotW 180K
LotW 170K
VotG 170K
TMA 200K
TAM 130K
TR 135K
TTQ 140K
TOTAL: 1,550,000 words
(That’s published words. When I think about how much rewriting is involved in writing a book, that number boggles my mind.)

Which makes the average size 155,000 words.

So far there are 65 typos reported for all books on my I have a Report a Typo! page on this website. That an average of 6.5 typos per book.

Which is one error per 23,846 words. I think that’s pretty good, really.

But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to know about errors. If you tell us about them we can have them corrected in reprints. So if you find any, go to the Report a Typo! page (under the Contact menu). Check that it hasn’t already been reported, and fill out the form. Please, PLEASE remember to say which page it’s on, and in the case of ebooks the chapter number helps me locate the same typo in the print edition.

And it’s a page for reporting typos, not printing or ebook conversion errors. If your book has a printing error return it to the shop. If your ebook has an error contact the retailer.

(Oh, and I think the funniest error so far is in The Traitor Queen – in which Gol mysteriously turns into God.)

  1. Oh yeah, I’ve seen the typo with Gol turning to God and was pretty confused :P

  2. Great post, I am glad I reported some typo’s now (for the Traitor Queen), though I am not sure you should have “God nodded” fixed as this made me laugh out loud at a completely inappropriate moment.

Your error rate is extremely good which is a testament to both yourself, the beta readers and your editing team. I read a fantasy book recently in mass market paperback. Which had been out for a year hardback and ebook, in which I found 86 typo’s and 23 errors in tense. This was somewhat frustrating.

Did you not consider the change to the first person where Stone’s son became the narrator for the line a typo? I know I reported this and wonder if I was incorrect?

Looking forward to your new series. Theif Magic.

    Thanks for the great entertainment.

  3. I definatly laughed whe i read the Gol/God error i was suddenly in a diffrent world. The only thing is when im reading the books im so into them iI dont write down the errors I see, but there definaly arnt that many. ther was one where Tyvara turnerd into Svara in a moment with Lorkin which was odd, but nothing common sense could not sort out =)
