There’s a good chance this post will vanish soon during the website fix up, but I figure it’s better to put it up here and reconstruct later than be late with the calendar.
A friend’s daughter posed for the reference photos for both Tyvara and Savara. (Thanks Beany!) I decided to portray her as a slave, at the moment when Lorkin first really looks at her. Though the pose is submissive, the direct stare is not. I also noticed that in one of the reference shots Beany had crooked a finger, which reminded me of the gesture of crossing fingers behind the back when lying, so I added that to hint at Tyvara’s secret identity.
She looks younger than she is, which is due to the tilt of her head. The lower eyes are the more childish a face looks, the higher the more masculine. But of course, when you tilt your head forward it shifts the eye line lower, which is a little hard to compensate for in a line drawing.
I managed to get the last three character sketches done in the same session. Obviously Savara is next. And I’m sure you can guess who I’ve saved for last.
