Almost Finished

|

When I said, a few posts back, that I'd have to work hard to make up the time I lost to the flu I didn't realise just how hard that working would be. I lost five weeks to the flu. I gained a deadline extension of a month. But because we were booked to leave for our Worldcon trip earlier than that, I had only three extra weeks.

That meant working weekends. And for a while there, into the evenings as well. But I have made it. The Ambassador's Mission will be delivered this week, once I have tackled feedback and comments from the early beta readers.

As you can imagine, I haven't had any time to blog here - and even if I'd had there hasn't been much to blog. Well, except that Conjecture, the Aussie Natcon in Adelaide, was heaps of fun and inspiring to boot. And Worldcon news, which I will put in a separate post.

Conjecture

|

This weekend I'll be at Conjecture in Adelaide, at the Natcon (the Australian National SF Convention). But since this time of year is always deadline chasing time, so I'm just heading over for the con. The only signing of books I'll be doing will be at the con. The only bookshops I'll be visiting will be those set up at the con. But if you're coming to the con, these are the panels I'll be participating in:

From Pen to Print, Saturday 9:30 to 10:00 am

Worldbuilding, Sunday 5:00 to 5:30 pm

SF Art, Monday 12:30 to 1:00 pm

There will be signings, but I don't have times, and there was even talk of a 'coffee clutch'. Check the con program, or the con whiteboard, or your friendly con volunteer. One thing I can be sure of is I won't be doing readings, as I still have a nagging post-flu cough.

Cons and Colds

|

Contact (Swancon) was the best con ever! People were so friendly and enthusiastic. The committee were helpful, organised and their cheerfulness was infectious. My fellow guests were insightful and fun. And my minders (who I called minions), Sandra and Wing, were fabulous - both a delight to hang out with and ready to spring into action if I needed them.

Unfortunately Paul and I brought home Richard Morgan's cold. (Okay, there were other people there with colds that we could have caught it from, but we're blaming Richard.) So Paul hasn't downloaded any pics and I haven't been up to writing blog posts. Hopefully I'll be able to put something up here soon.

In the meantime I'll be concentrating on getting better so I can get stuck into finishing The Ambassador's Mission. I didn't manage to get the first draft done before Swancon because of a very different flu that was going around, but I only have about eight or so chapters left to write. (I guess I should be grateful that, what with all the travelling I've been doing, I've only had two bouts of cold/flu so far this year.)

There's another convention coming up soon: Conjecture in Adelaide. And then another event coming up in the second half of the year... but the international flights and hotels aren't booked yet so I'll have to save that announcement for another time.
