  1. Hey! Don’t think I’m nuts, well at least I don’t think I am but I seriously don’t know how to start this off. Well I guess telling you I have loved your Black Magician trilogy since I just left primary school would be a good way to begin and I really did enjoy The Ambassador’s Mission, it seemed that every shop in Norethern Ireland didn’t stock it, and so mum, under duress, finally relinquished her hold on her switch card and I got it off Amazon. It was worth the previous days of begging and angry threats.
Now to why I’m annoying you…you have inspired me to write and to try and develope stories and worlds of my own. I’ve practiced writing fanfiction but I really just want to get cracking on my own. There are no half decent writing groups in my area or at least within a 30 minute driving distance (which really is not shocking) and so I was wondering whether you would know any online groups that I could join. I’ve tried googling but, well, they’re either not functioning anymore or the site is impossible to work out.
I hope its not too much trouble,
    Ali A

P.S. Good luck with ‘The Rogue’!

  2. A friend lent me “Magician’s Guild” two years ago, and I can’t say how grateful I am since then. I was completely hooked.

No book had such an effect on me for a long time. I had always loved fantasy, action and romance, and your books have given me all of them. I’m really, really happy; they make me want to flip and read to the next page as soon as possible, and possibly the fastest ones I’ve been able to complete.

They are not without flaws, of course, and not all things go the way I want them to. But they amaze me, exciting of the different perspective of the characters you have always liked to use.

I bought “Ambassador’s Mission” a few days ago (took me hours to find it, can’t believe how thrilled I was to finally get my hands on it). I was more than glad to find the old and new characters. Especially love the way you describe Sonea: she has the same character, stubborn, compassionate, practical and the way she views things. But then again she is different now, having a son and being in a whole new higher position in the guild, her thoughts have been more practical, wise-the perspective of a mother.

    Thank you.
Please give us even more stories. They inspire more people than you have ever guessed. Once again, thank you.

  3. Dear Trudi,

I just finished The Ambassador’s Mission an hour ago and, wow, was it good. I’ve read all of your books during these past 3 years and they’ve really been an inspiration to me. Your way of writning and your characters have helped me a lot in my own writing, inspired me to create my own litte worlds. If you’d ever come to Sweden I’d love to meet you, but I guess that that’s not likely, since your books haven’t reach that level of popularity here, yet…

Anyway. Now I have to survive a year without one of your books, how will I manage?(!) But take your time, and make sure your next one becomes perfect, which I of course think it will be.

    Warm greetings from Sweden,

    Christoffer

  4. Dear Trudi

I borrowed the Black Magicians Trilogy from one of my sisters friend a while ago and finnished all three books in under 5 days.
The writing in them was so spectacular that I couldn’t put them down for more than a few minutes without getting withdarwel symptoms!
Thank you for publishing your work so that us people down on the ground with only a marganal amount of talent can read them.

All my best wishes with your next works=]

Lots of gratitude from your South African fan
    Rochelle

  7. Hey!
I have to say I love your books! My best friend and I first bonded over how much we loved The Black Magician Trilogy after years of hating each other! The Ambassadors Mission was amazing and even though I am a very slow reader I finished it in 3 days!

I’ve only got one tiny thing I’d change about the books is the slight overuse of the word “chuckle” and I know its just a small thing but its just something I’ve noticed but besides that I love all the books and have recommended them to all my fantasy loving friends!

Can’t wait for the next one!

    Laura :)

  8. I love your books! I have already read your first two trilogies and I am really looking forward to read the next one! You are one of my favorite writers and whenever I start one of your books I can’t do anything else but read the whole day :-) I especially enjoyed The Black Magician Trilogy. Since I have a lot of time now (just finished my studies of English and French), I will read all of your books again and order your new ones!
    Greetings from Germany!
    Ingrid

  9. I loved Amabassador’s mission. It was a really great book, and wish one day you visit London for a visit so I can tell you in person! [not least, get my awesome collection of your books signed, ha]

  11. dear god,
it came to my attention that when i wish for an epic-awesome book to read befor bed after a stressful day, you make me wait about a year and then bless me with the most amazingly written, utterly genius and matter of fact completely compelling book todate. well u certainly lived up to your name when u gave me ‘ambassadors mission’. u really must thank trudi when u visit her in dreamland some time soon. she really deserves all the praise hundred fold, not just for the books shes wrote but for the way they truly envoke magic throughout mind, body and spirit.
sadly theres only so many pages a book contains, but i can sleep happily knowing next year another book will be in my hands filling my head with even more magic filled storylines. and if miracles come true, thats a new shiny book every year for the rest of my life. then i can safely say life isnt so bad.

on the behalf of anyone whos anyone (thats obviously people who read books, particulary fiction n fantasy (the cool kids)) i can confidently say we all truly love trudi canavan.

    xx

  12. I have just finished reading “The High Lord” and I must say it was difficult to finish the last few pages because I didn’t want the story to end. I loved the trilogy, and I’m now searching out your other books to read. Odd enough, I picked up “The Magicians Guild” while on vacation in China about a week ago, and I must say I don’t regret buying it and taking it home with me. Thank you for your hard work and keeping my boredom at ease. Please keep writing for I am in love with your characters, and your style. :D

Thanks so much for doing what you do.
I have to admit, I was amazed to find two of my other favourite authors on your top 10 lists.
I guess we both have good taste?

    Thanks Chandré

  15. Just finished Ambassadors mission! I enjoyed the read especially the part where Sonea confronted [spoiler removed]… I cant wait for the The Rogue to get published and I’d be the first in the queuing for it in bookstores! lol Good luck!

  16. Hello!
I have read the Black Magicians Trilogy, All i can say is WOW they were amazing while i am in university studying sports and education, I will be diving into a world of fantasy while being mocked by sporting friends but eh who cares i have more fun. You have also inspired me to try and write a fantasy novel myself because it is just so epic and would be so fun. I will be seeking guidance in this and hopefully i could do something as great as this. (Dreaming). The Magician’s Apprentice and The Ambassadors Mission is unreal on there self and i cant comprehend on what a genius you are, i am just so looking forward to next year, just to read the next Trudi Canavan book.

Great Work, Your a role model to me and I am guessing to a lot of other people.
    Feel proud, Thanks. xxxx

  17. Hello!

I bought lately “The Magician’s Apprentice” and I’m ending this book now. It’s great and I’m going to buy the first part of the Black Magician Trilogy too.

In Poland we love your books too.

    Bye! :)

  18. Hey Trudi.

I would just like to thank you for the novels you have written. I cannot stop reading the books. I’ve just finished reading The Magicians Apprentice and love it. You are a true insparation.
    Keep up the fantastic work.

    Thank you once again.

  19. Hi,

Ive read your Black Magician Trilogy once i saw The Magicians Apprentice i snapped it up.
I wont say much so as not to spoil anything for anyone else, but is there a chance you could continue the story? im interested to see certain aspects that were kind of skipped over or removed suddenly at the end. plus id like to see how ( and im trying to be vague) that the organization started in this book turned into what it did when its met in your previous books.

Your books are amazing, i look forward to reading the ones i missed so far.

    Thanks
    mark

  20. Hi been reading a lot about ebooks and piracy etc and for the life of me I cannot imagine reading a whole book from a screen, it seems so souless. I buy all my books in hardback and the pleasure I get from working through the book is imense, feet up on the setee, wife and kids out and a cup of hot coffee. Heaven.

I do buy and borrow second hand books but usually of authors I have not yet read or am not sure about, it makes financial sense.

Cant wait for the next Traitors book.

    Luck.

    Neil

  21. i m 50year old male living in the uk,i am a fan of terry pratchet, and a friend suggested trudi canavan.anybody out there who can sell me her merits, tell me about her plots.thank you friends

  22. Dear Trudi

I felt like reading a book tuesday and found The Ambassador’s Mission much to my delight, having read all of your other books (I think) I knew it would be great and was not dissapointed (finished it today). Just wanted to say I love how you have developed Regin as a character it’s nice to see someone appear to be trying to atone for past wrongs. I also like the Tayend strop it seems amusingly stereotypical, I can’t be sure if thats what you were going for. Anyway I’m quite excited and intrigued to find out what happens to Lorkin so I hope all goes well whilst you’re writing The Rogue.

    Best wishes

  23. There was Dickens, There was Tolkien and there was Canavan. =D

  24. Dear Trudi,

Would love to see a sequel to your age of five series.

[story suggestion removed - see my policy on posts]

    Love your books

  25. Hey Trudi,

My summer is not as busy as it was supposed to be, so I find myself with quite some time to kill. As a result I made a little trip to the local (Netherlands) bookstore to find your trilogy the black magician there. I first bought the first book and then the second and third. I must say they made the time pass quickly and with quite some readingjoy allong the way. Though i wished a certain person hadn’t died in the last book, I was both inspired and compelled by your storylines and empathic manner of writing.

I find myself now quite addicted to your novels and started reading “the magician’s apprentice” in default of the start of your new trilogy (for some reason I can’t find “an ambassador’s mission” in any single dutch bookstore – which is a bloody shame because I am so dying to read it!). Not to preasure you into working to hard; but your books really make my day and I would be so delighted if the new trilogy would be complete and on my bookshelf.

Thank you for your lovely work

  26. Hi Trudi

I really enjoyed your first book Magician’s Apprentice – i only bought it at the airport to fill in time but was hooked within the first chapter. I immediately had to get the next three and they were really good too!

I can’t wait to read Ambassador’s Mission – the extract was very tantalising!

Would love an book about the years between the Apprentice and the black magician trilogy.

  27. hi yet again

i would just like to say i have just finished reading all of your books that have been released so far and cant wait till next year and the year after for the rest of the traitor spy trilogy to be released.

i think your books are fantastic and think it would be absolutely marvelous if you were to get them made into films as they would be a major hit! especially with the love twists involved in your novels, they are sooooo romantic and makes me wish they were like that in real life :)

  28. Hola

  30. Hi Trudi,

I just finished The Magicians Apprentice and was a bit depressed that there were no more books, then as if my prayers were answered I happened to walk into my local book store and there on the shelf waiting for me was The Ambasador’s Mission.

I cant wait to get stuck into it.

    Thanks for the books.

    Regards from sunny South Africa

  31. Hi, I really liked the Black Magician Trilogy and I was surprised it isn’t available from amazon in kindle/ebook form.

I do all my book shopping in ebook form, when one isn’t available (or ebook form is delayed) I just deal with the fleeting guilt of obtaining it as as PDF elsewhere *cough* but I do prefer to buy the books.

I already own the black magician trilogy (as physical books) but please consider adding them to amazon as ebooks so I can keep them on the kindle and not have to resort to inferior PDFs. I noticed all your newer books are available as ebooks which is great.

    Cheers

  32. Salam trudi….

  34. Hi, I am Josephine, a 12-year-old pupil from Germany. I love Trudi Canavans books. This manner of writing is unbelievable!
Please, write furthermore so great books, Trudi!

  35. Greetings from Denmark!

I Fell in love with the Black Magician Trilogy first, and have bought & read everything else you’ve published since!

I have been reading fantasy books since childhood, and I am not easily impressed these days,
but your books are just fantastic :)

Btw, your new website looks great!

  36. i have to say i loved the magicians guild trilogy although was disappointed in the ending in High Lord. i don’t know what it is about it that made me feel that.

However am so looking forward to the Traitor Spy trilogy now that i know it continues on with the story of Sonea and all the characters!

loving that you put a glossary in the back of the books. could i suggest in these books you put in pronunciation guides to how we’re supposed to say the names? me and my dad argue over this all the time! even in other fantasy books! he pronounces Dannyl as dann-il and i as daniel

  37. Hallo Rudi!

    Christine

  38. Hi Trudi,
I would love to give you a big thumbs up on ‘The Black Magician’ Trilogy, the best read I’ve had for a very, very long time.
Something you don’t often see in this stone-age is a sub-divided novel where the main character as well as several other influential characters each have their own important and entwining stories, I think that makes the story a thousand times better, a bit like reading seven novels at once.
First being introduced to your novel’s through ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ I back-tracked and read ‘The Black Magician Trilogy’ and I can’t wait to get my hands on ‘The Ambassador’s Mission’ and all that follow.
I’ll join the crowd and put my hopes and wishes on the table for a ‘Magician’s Guild’ movie to hit the silver screen, in the near-future.
Thank you for providing us with such wonderful and richly detailed stories.

PS. If the movie does get the ‘go-ahead’
I must say, Ceryni seems like a very good character to play.
    Keep me in mind *wink,wink*

  39. All i can think to say is wow i love the new book and cannot wait for the next one to come out

  40. Hi

first of all thank you for all the great hours I have had reading your books. I have read all of them and enjoyed them a lot. No to the point. I just started to read my books on my iphone. I know it’s not your fault but I live in Sweden and you cant buy your books on I Books. It has probably something to do with publishing rights and so on but don’t you think it would be best for you to reach out to as many people as possible in as many ways as possible.

Thanks again for all your books, they are extraordinary good. I like it that your characters are not typical fantasy types and that you add main characters like Dannyl for instance! Good work.

    /Mikael

  41. Hello, I am not a usual fantasy reader, i fact, I don’t like so mucho, but your trilogy “The black magician” is simply great, addictive and touching, I really enjoyed it!! I have toy say that I didn`t like the ending so much. But anyway, I think is one of the most captiavting stories I have ever read, congratulations!

  42. Hello.
I read both trilogys and the new one in german. I like all books an happy to tell in my friends.

  43. Hi Trudi,
I was just wondering if you had considered writing a companion novel/book/short story to ‘The High Lord’ from Akkarin’s point of view? We know how Sonea feels, and even Lorlen, Dannyl, and Rothen. It would be intriguing to discover Akkarin’s inner-most thoughts etc throughout the events that occurred in ‘The High Lord’.
Just a random thought I had whilst reading it! lol
    Thank you, Sarah

  44. I´ve just finished reading “The Magicians’ Guild” and thoroughly enjoyed it. I´m now going to work my way through the rest of the triology and then your other stories.
I´ve discovered fantasy fiction rather late in my life via Katherine Kerr´s “”Deverry” series and Marion Zimmer Bradley´s “Novels of Darkover” series; both of which I´ve found addictive.
I´m delighted to have found your writings and thank you so much for the hours of reading that I´ve enjoyed and will enjoy.

  45. Hi

I recently just found the black magician’s trilogy during my holidays and I loved it. Usually I don’t read a lot, but they were so good I finished them in a very short time. Then when I went back home I found the ambassador’s mission in a book shop. I thought it was a different book because the name was so different in German. It translates to something like ‘Sonea: The Guardian’. I don’t think it’s good that the translated names are so different. It’s kind of confusing. Keep up the good work though! =D

  46. Hello! I have read the whole trilogy barely three days. I love her, but I recognize that I have felt horrible at the end. And I need to ask, really necessary? I love a happy change in the trilogy of the the Traitor Spy Trilogy. At end they are Wizards and everything is possible, right? Thank you very much for making us dream!

    Malavik

  47. Hello,

I want to thank you for all the wonderful books.
Can’t wait for the next “Traitor” book :)

    Many Greetings from Poland.

  48. Absolutly love your books and the world of Kryllia, can not wait to read the new trilogy. No really can i have an advance copy of all 3. Lol.

  49. Hello Trudi, i must say the books are so fantastic. I Came from germany and i must say sorry for my english, this not so good. My Girlfriend give me the First Book from you, The rebel was so fantastic and i read continuously. Now I have All The Books. The rebel, the novice, The Masters and The Guardian. Now I’ve got the history. I really must say thank you write such good books, I’m looking forward to a sequel if they ever have one.

  50. Hi Trudi,

I just wanted to tell you that i love your books, i have completely devoured them all! The Black Magician trilogy are the books that grabbed my attention to you as a writer, and it also remains my favorite trilogy. I was so glad when the Ambassador’s Mission came out because it meant i (and every one of your fans) could pick up the story with all the characters that we came to love. I really hope that a film/series will be made out of your books, but also hope that if it happens you would be very involved with it so as to make sure that it turns out correctly (i have seen too many good books become bad films…).
I was also wondering how you pronounce the name Cery (is it a silent C or a pronounced one?).

Thank you so much and I eagerly await your next book,

    Lucy from Belgium
