Oil on canvas

A gift for a friend.

While rewriting the first half of The High Lord I stayed in my agent's
holiday house on Flinders Island. She took me to this beach, where I took my
best photo of the visit. Later I decided to paint it for her as a thankyou,
and it turned out to be her favourite place there. This was one of my first
deliberate abstractions of a landscape - I exaggerated the curve of the sky and
beach, and added texture to the foam.
