Almost Finished

| | Comments (5)

When I said, a few posts back, that I'd have to work hard to make up the time I lost to the flu I didn't realise just how hard that working would be. I lost five weeks to the flu. I gained a deadline extension of a month. But because we were booked to leave for our Worldcon trip earlier than that, I had only three extra weeks.

That meant working weekends. And for a while there, into the evenings as well. But I have made it. The Ambassador's Mission will be delivered this week, once I have tackled feedback and comments from the early beta readers.

As you can imagine, I haven't had any time to blog here - and even if I'd had there hasn't been much to blog. Well, except that Conjecture, the Aussie Natcon in Adelaide, was heaps of fun and inspiring to boot. And Worldcon news, which I will put in a separate post.

Hermitising

| | Comments (7)

Today I'm starting a three week writing stint, in which I hope to finish the first draft of The Ambassador's Mission. It's going to be quite a challenge to get it done in that time, so I'm doing what I call 'hermitising'. This means only family, friends and maintaining my physical (and mental) health are allowed to draw me away from writing. No publicity, no lunches with publishers or agents, no unnecessary blogging.

So things may get a bit quiet around here. But I am considering posting small updates on my progress. It might be fun to share a little of the craziness of writing under pressure, and make me feel a little less like a hermit.

Two Weeks

| | Comments (1)

For the next two weeks I'm going to be at a writers retreat with no internet access - unless we manage to find an internet cafe in one of the local country towns, and then I doubt I'll be getting a daily fix.

My partner will post any important information that my publisher sends to me. (He's not going to the retreat, having gone nearly bonkers from being stuck with only us crazy writers for company for a fortnight last year!) Hopefully that will include a link to a new website my publishers have created for fans of my books, and a list of the events in my coming Aussie tour. (No tours planned outside Australia yet.)

This means I probably won't be approving guestbook entries, blog comments or reading fanmail, either. I'll have to do a catch-up when I get back. In the meantime I'll be madly working on The Ambassador's Mission, hoping to get to the halfway point by the time I return home.
