Trudi Canavan

bestselling author of The Black Magician Trilogy

And the Winner is…

Orbit and I have finally settled on an author photo.

Yep, nothing like the ones I posted a few months back. Those ones didn’t have quite the right feel, it turned out. So my partner, Paul, and I did another shoot. This time outdoors, along the Yarra River in Melbourne. This one had the ‘authorshottishness’ we were after (especially after my friend, Kerri, waved her magic Photoshop wand at it). The bods at Orbit agreed.

I like it. What do you think?

  1. That looks really nice! I like how you have all the sunshine in too. It has a very… happy feel to it.

  2. yup i think that you look more natural in this photo and it seems to be ” closer” to the readers too, unlike the usual author-ly photos..(: if you get what i mean

  3. Your books are a delight in there reading and I am looking forward to your next offerings.
This is a nice image, you being cute certainly doesn’t detract from it. You might consider cropping it slightly? Divide the area of the image up into three equal parts along the vertical, place your eye line at the intersection of the upper two parts. Gets rid of the empty space up there.
Just a suggestion. Have a beautiful day!

  4. Very nice. Very flattering.

  5. i love the photo i think its original and natural its great

  6. I like it. Violet is one of my favourite colours. And somehow, I like to tell myself, that I see a bit of myself in that picture. Thatswhy I like it. This way I can compare myself to you – a little, and maybe find it more possible to get my story written to the end some day, too.

  7. I think it’s great! Almost every other author shot I have ever seen has the author sitting and looking right at the camera. This pose is so unique. And you look beautiful. Must have been a good hair day! Can’t wait to see the pick inside the book!

  8. I like the photo… it’s more personal than the others!

  9. Also I really like your necklace 🙂

  10. I’m not entirely of the opinion of those who already commented. Although I do agree that violet really suits you ( very much so 🙂 ) I’m a bit unsure about the picture. Your shirt reflected a lot of violet into your face which I think makes it look a bit unnatural.
Maybe your friend can do something about this with her magic photoshop wand? 🙂 Also, the rims of your glasses match the upper curve of your eyes which might look odd when printed at a small size, but this is just guesswork
On the whole I think the picture has very vibrant and lively colours which makes a really nice impression and I like it loads better than the ones you posted before 🙂
    Best wishes 🙂

  11. Wonderful picture – unusual and inventive – it looks great!

  12. It’s good. Violet suits you. And it’s different shot, not normal but it brings some difference. In one word – I like it.

  13. It’s good. You look very natural on that picture…

  14. Oh I think that photo is amazing.
    😀 😀

  15. Great photo! No offence meant but this one is a lot better than the previous ones, it looks so much more natural 🙂
    Have a good day!

  16. Very nice, Although I do wonder what it will look like once it’s been shrunk down to book size.

  17. Looks great, but where’s the handknit??
