The Rogue Delivered!

Yesterday I sent off The Rogue, book two of the Traitor Spy Trilogy, to the publisher. Woohoo!

What next? Well, for the book there’s quite a bit more work to do. It goes first to the Editorial Director, then I’ll tackle any changes to be made. It goes to the copy editor next, then I’ll check the corrections, deal with any queries, and do one more read through. Then I get a copy set out like the finished book, and I’ll check any changes I made. After that I don’t see it again until the printed book arrives on my doorstep, and then in the bookshops around the middle of next year.

For me, it means I’m free to prepare for Aussiecon4. After that we are having a new kitchen put in. It will be so nice to have a stove with all four burners working, no gaps where drawers fell apart, more bench space and a kitchen set out like a kitchen rather than a bar! (The house was built in the early 70s, and I suspect that the architect didn’t like to cook.)

Then, in October, I get started on The Traitor Queen. Ideas are already popping into my head for book three. But they’re just going to have to stay there for now. I’m having a much needed break!

  1. Why do you write trilogy’s? I love your work, and it would be so cool if you wrote a longer series!

  2. Lorkin <3 I hope this book never becomes a film it will take away ththe magic. like the harry potter books did in film

  3. Just finished reading the last book you wrote, I discovered your books two months back and have bought all of them as soon as i had the chance!

  4. Can’t wait for the next book and thank you for your advice on writing my first book went to publisher for editing last week as well hopefully it won’t be the last

  5. YES!!!! Can not wait! Just finished another trilogy and cant wait for this!

I just wonder if your going to do anything with the AOTF trilogy? maybe a prequel or sequel? I loved Emerahl and the other Wilds.

Thanks for writing the books that firstly got me interested in reading! Because before the BMT I never read anything for pleasure.

  6. Hi,
Saw this notice only now, but this made my day today!

  7. Congratulation!I’m really looking forward for the next book..Have a nice break~

  8. Congrats on finishing the 2nd book! I’ve read all of you’re books so far and i’m really glad that you have made a sequal on one of them. I hope that you can make in the future a sequal for ‘The age of Five’, ’cause i like it the most. TAM, is a really good book as well thought :), enjoy you’re well earned vacantion!
    grtz from Belgium

  9. I got incredibly excited when I bought TAM and TMA, as I love your other two series. The character of Sonea really caught me so I was slightly disappointed that TAM wasn’t as centred on her but I suppose it is a generation later and the story was more about Lorkin and Danyl. I loved that Cery was so involved in that story. I know that TMA is supposed to be a ‘stand alone’, but is there any chance of a second book to follow it? I would love to see how Tessia develops healing as a magical ability. Can’t wait for The Rogue! Next year is sooooooo far away though! Enjoy your break =]

  10. I am looking forward to my dad hunting in the book shops and refusing to let me start on it before him but hey, thats life.

Is there ANY possible chance that there would be any advance on the black magicians trilogy??

Congratulations on completing the book (:

  11. Glad I visited this site. I didn’t even know there was another series. Congrats on finishing your book.

  12. Congratualtions! The anticipation for the next instalment in the Traitor Spy Trilogy is almost killling me! Well done and thank you so much for creating a world that I can’t joyfully escape to every once in a while!

    enjoy your rest,
and thanks again for all your books you’ve written so far!!

  15. I can’t wait for “The Rogue” ! ๐Ÿ™‚
    Greetings from Poland

  16. Hi, can’ t wait for the new book. Reading ‘ The Ambassadors mission’ again is on my list of things to do before the new one. Great work. Just finished the age of five and really enjoyed them. A book about what they do next would be great.

  17. Congrats on finishing The Rogue ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m excited about reading it, but also extremely apprehensive. I was very upset by a certain storyline in TAM (*tries to be vague* The end of chapter 4 probably sums up what upset me) and I do hope things start to get sorted out for these 2 characters in The Rogue. I’m afraid to get my hopes up though, in case I am disappointed >< But I will wait and see how the story progresses before I lose all hope.

I hope you enjoy your rest from writing ๐Ÿ˜€

    • I only liked him in ‘ The black magician’ trilogy, but in TAM he changes to much so i’m happy that what happened happend.

      • Yes, he does change a lot… but I dont think we’ve seen enough of him in TAM to really judge him properly. We only see the superficial side to him. Plus he never got a chance to give his side of things in TAM, so it isn’t fair to be too harsh on him. He obviously has his reasons for changing how he did, even if it was for the worse.

The relationship breaking up could not be all his fault, it was both of their faults. I think TAM focused on how it was his fault, but I can see plenty of reasons why it was the other person’s fault as well.

I hope this made sense, I’m trying to be vague ๐Ÿ˜€

        • Just about, but if it didn’ t happen we would have lost a great character although i’m not sure what comes next for him after the events of the book.

          Thanks for your view. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Great!! ๐Ÿ˜€ It’s good to know that The Rogue is already written :]
I’m curios when it will be published. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  19. Wwwooh!
Cant wait for the new book..I Love this series!
What are the chances of a sequel to the magicians apprentice? I Got attached to Tessia and Jayan!

    • I’m not planning a sequel to TMA. Though I never say ‘never’. When I finish the Traitor Spy Trilogy I will have spent 6-7 years working books set in the same world – after having spent about the same time on the Black Magician Trilogy. When I’m done, it’ll be time to start something new.

      • what’s about a sequel to The Age of the Five (i hope it’s correct i translatet it from german ^^)? i would love to see how it’s going on with “Owaya” ๐Ÿ˜€

  20. Congrats and well done! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m eagerly waiting to read it already ๐Ÿ˜› well i have been since TAM’s release, but it is good to hear about the progress of TR ๐Ÿ˜€ and also interesting to know what it has to go through after you’ve finished writing it.

  21. Congrats Trudi, excellent news to wake up to. Hope you do a London tour soon. Use it as an excuse for a holiday.

  22. Congrats on getting another book out the door – I’ll have to keep an eye out here to know when to get The Rogue in stock. Does that bubbly elated feeling that comes with completing a book ever fade? Has the job of writing become a rote affair for you, or is it still constantly exciting?

    • Finishing a books is always a thrill, though I must admit with some books it is as much of a relief! That has more to do with what is going in my life at the time, though.
